“More Camrost-Type Buildings”: Mayor Throws Support Behind Mississauga's Exchange District

Mississauga's Mayor Carolyn Parrish has voiced strong support for the Exchange District development project, a transformative initiative led by Camrost Felcorp. Located in the heart of downtown Mississauga, the project aligns with the city’s strategic growth plan to accommodate a rapidly expanding population, expected to surpass 850,000 by 2031. Parrish sees the project as a cornerstone for modern urban living in one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities.  

Spanning a three-acre site, the Exchange District's ambitious plan includes four towers ranging from 31 to 72 storeys. The development will add 1,967 residential units alongside office spaces, retail outlets, a hotel, a museum, and new parks, creating a multi-functional urban hub. This project is not just about increasing housing availability but also about fostering a vibrant and sustainable community that integrates work, leisure, and culture.  

Mayor Parrish has been a vocal advocate for streamlining the approval processes for developers, recognizing the urgent need for more housing. Her administration has introduced measures like the "three and done" plan review model to expedite project approvals. She believes the Exchange District exemplifies a development framework that could set a precedent for future projects, accelerating Mississauga’s growth in a planned and efficient manner.  

This development aligns with broader provincial strategies aimed at increasing urban density near transit hubs. Mississauga’s forthcoming Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT) system and high-rise zones have been carefully planned to ensure the city can handle new growth effectively.
