The Heather Lands redevelopment in Vancouver’s Cambie Corridor has reached a significant milestone with the unveiling of plans for six new buildings, ranging from six to 25 storeys. These structures, part of the massive 21.1-acre project, will deliver more than 1,250 homes, blending market housing with moderate-income rental units. Led by MST Development, Canada Lands Company, and Aquilini Development, the project is deeply rooted in Indigenous values as MST prepares to assume full ownership.
The site, previously home to an RCMP headquarters, aims to transform into an inclusive, vibrant community. Parcels B and F, two of the project’s first phases, will host towers with distinct designs. Parcel B features a mix of traditional podiums and slender towers, while Parcel F incorporates a central courtyard flanked by curved podiums, reflecting the interconnectedness emphasized by local Indigenous communities.
A cultural centre, parks, schools, and commercial spaces will enhance the site’s livability. Housing affordability is a key focus, supported by British Columbia’s Attainable Housing Initiative. This ensures a portion of pre-sale homes are more accessible to middle-income buyers, aligning with the project’s goal to address Vancouver’s pressing housing challenges.
The Heather Lands development plans to deliver a total of 2,600 homes over the next 15 years. The designs emphasize community integration, environmental sustainability, and heritage acknowledgment, setting a model for urban development in Vancouver.
Beyond residential units, the project includes recreational areas and public spaces, reinforcing its role as a hub for cultural and social interaction. With Indigenous stewardship at its core, Heather Lands symbolizes a unique collaboration between development and reconciliation efforts.
The unveiling of these six towers marks an exciting chapter for Heather Lands, signaling progress in redefining the city’s housing landscape while honoring its Indigenous history.
