Thind Properties, a real estate developer based in Burnaby, has sold the hotel portion of its Highline Metrotown tower for $47.2 million. The 48-storey building, located at 6511 Sussex Avenue near Metrotown Station and across from Metropolis at Metrotown shopping centre, was completed in late 2023. While the residential units are occupied, the 10-storey podium, initially intended for office space, remained vacant.
Earlier this yeas applied to the City of Burnaby to convert the unused office space into a hotel. The city approved this change in November 2024. The hotel, to be named Hyatt Place Metrotown, will occupy the podium of the Highline tower.
The sale came tovil lawsuit between Thind Properties and realtor Gurmail Singh. Singh claims he had a consulting agreement with Thind, promising him a 2% commission for selling the strata office and retail units. He is seeking $800,000 in unpaid commission, alleging he introduced Mundi Hotel Enterprises Inc. as the buyer.
Thind Propertiesclaims, denying the existence of such an agreement and stating they were unaware of it until the lawsuit was filed. They also assert that Singh did not provide any services or advice regarding the property, nor did he introduce the buyer.
In response, SinThind's Founder and CEO, Daljit Thind, signed the agreement, witnessed by a colleague. He asserts that he provided property details to Mundi Hotel Enterprises and facilitated inspections and meetings. Singh alleges that after initial interest, Mundi Hotel Enterprises proceeded with the purchase without his involvement.
The outcome of t pending. Meanwhile, the transformation of the Highline Metrotown podium into Hyatt Place Metrotown is set to enhance Burnaby's hospitality offerings, providing a new lodging option in the city's bustling Metrotown area.
